Eye of the Storm

Heya friendos! As we’re nearing the end of the year, I am experiencing some trepidation. Not necessarily in a bad way, I’m definitely feeling antsy in more ways than one. Let’s talk about the state of Rumorweaver and the world in general.

How Am I Doing?

As I am wrapping up for the year, I’m simultaneously super excited and terrified. Next year, if nothing else, will be a tempestuous one. My social benefits will end somewhere in the back end of the year, so I will have to really kick some business into gear. The state of the world is also becoming increasingly strange, so I will have to be strategic about life stuff. In a lot of ways, it feels like we’re in the eye of the storm and the heavens are about to burst.

I have a lot of different ideas for that, but I feel like I need some time off first, to have a new perspective on it. Luckily, I will go on a small trip for the holidays to see family and friends. Hopefully, it will take me out of the grindset (as the kids call it) I’ve been in the past weeks. I’ve been super productive on my main project, but left little room for anything else.

What Am I Doing?

It also means that I will have to start seriously pitching Rumorweaver to business partners, be it investors, publishers, or creative funds. I had planned to get a start-to-end playable build ready before the end of the year, but seeing as I’m leaving on holiday in a couple of days, that won’t be happening.

That being said, the game is starting to really come together. That’s super exciting! I’m still happy to work on it but I feel that as soon as I’ve finished the vertical slice, I’m ready to leave it be for a bit. Pretty sure my attitude will change once I get people to playtest it, but I’m anticipating a huge dip in motivation soon.

Here’s a little video of the game in action! If you can’t see it, click here to view this newsletter in your browser.

This is a section of the game that displays all the cinematic and dialogue changes I’ve been implementing quite clearly.

It’s interesting to realize that I’ve now developed the self-analytical skills necessary to see those patterns beforehand. I guess that’s what a year+ worth of documented observation of your own creative process will get you!

Why Am I Doing? (this)

I don’t think I have much to say in the ways of the philosophical today. As I said before, I didn’t make much time for anything else than working on my game. What I do know, is that I’m still in love with making games and that I’ve found a healthy lifestyle to do that. I’d love to hang on for that ad infinitum, but we’ll see how that pans out.

I’m not sure if there will be a newsletter next week, since I’m off having a good time with my friends and family. If not, happy holidays! If so, see you next week!
