Blue Monday?

Hey friends! I spent most of the week working and chilling, nothing unique in particular, so this will be a short newsletter. I’ll mention some Bibidi news and what’s on the docket for the next few weeks.

How Am I Doing?

It was Blue Monday yesterday, so naturally I’m… doing great! The sun visited us for a couple of days in a row, so I managed to do my daily walks in the park. It’s been productive days and cozy nights. I’m also happy I managed to get back into the flow of making these weekly newsletters.

Also 2026 seems to be a good year for concerts. So far I’ve already planned 6 gigs to go to in the first half of the year! Gives me something to look forward to almost every month.

What Am I Doing?

So last week, we published a new Bibidi Bibidi update, significantly increasing the difficulty of the game. Paired with that, Jonas reached out to some streamers who played the game before and a handful of them returned to play the update! Here are a few examples, in no particular order. urbanbohemian is a very charming streamer who’s a hoot to watch.

I nominate Roy Martini for ‘Streamer with the best name’ award.

It’s been enlightening to see these returning players’ reaction to the update. We managed to fulfill a lot of what we were trying to address. That being said, maybe the difficulty curve is a bit of an overcorrection. Even I have trouble getting to the final boss most runs now. We’ll probably dial it back a little in the next one.

What’s Next?

What’s next for Bibidi Bibidi! If it’s not already out, we’re pushing a small patch to address some bugs as well as make a clearer section for feedback. It’ll come out somewhere this week.

Then, we’re on to new playable characters! For now, I’ve been using this biker version of Tom as a placeholder, but we’ve since locked in who the new character will be. Maybe he’ll make a cameo as Tom’s evil twin in the full game.

Essentially, you will be able to unlock a playable character through the Skymap. They will have a different spellbook layout, stats, starting sigils and deck as well. The idea is to keep most of the gameplay the same, but to recontextualize existing cards. I think this first new character does that very well!

That update will come out somewhere next week probably. After that, we’ll be working on new cards, sigils and monsters for a bit, while polishing the whole experience up.

Why Am I Doing? (this)

So we’re truckin’ on with Bibidi. We even set some important dates for deadlines and such. That being said, I keep thinking of ECS. I don’t know why I’m suddenly so obsessed with it. There’s something about how it tickles the brain that makes me go into a completely other pocket of game design.

I don’t have to motivation or energy to set up a new Godot project and actually start programming, but the idle survivor-esque game I mentioned last week keeps rolling around in my head. It’s just a sapling now, but I reckon this one will grow into a real plant sooner or later.
