The Doors

Hey friends! It’s been a while once again. More than a month, it would seem! I could’ve sworn I wrote and send out an issue in between, but somehow that got lost or I just completely forgot. We’ve got a lot to catch up on, including a new vlog, some hobby stuff and not one but two new Bibidi updates. Let’s get to it!

How Am I Doing?

I’m good! I have also been not so good in the meantime. The sudden change of weather shoved the year officially into autumn mode and it took me by surprise. I had a week were I felt a bit down, but have since crawled out of that slump.
I’m once again catsitting and the change of environment really helps. Also, I met up with friends and did a lot of sport last week, so I had my share of social and healthy activity to get me back in a good mood. I also went to see a concert of one of my favourite bands, no not the Doors. Its hard to stay down after something like that!

What Am I Doing?

So since the last newsletter, I’ve been up to quite a lot of stuff. First and foremost, we have 2 new Bibidi updates out. The first was for Wonders of Wizardry Steam Sale event. The theme of the event was too apt to now apply and do something special for it. I could’ve sworn I wrote up a newsletter for it, but it looks like I never actually send it out. Either way, that update mostly focused on new content: more effects, cards and monster encounters.

But yesterday, we launched another version: the Doors Update!

Gameplay video of Bibidi Bibidi: a camera zooms in on a dungeon wall in a dank cave. Two choices rest before the player, a crack in the wall with a set of eyes peering out from them, or a small portcullis to a room that seems to contain a campfire. The player chooses the latter, the room of which is described as a Breathtaking Vista. They enter the room and the scene transitions to a cozy alcove with a fire crackling gently. The player rests here and heals for 25 health. They leave and once again the scene transitions to another eerie dungeon wall, this time with a menacing gate with teeth as bars in the center. It seems to be the door to a boss battle. The player approached and the teeth fly open, revealing a tongue as they enter the gate.
A massively compressed GIF of some rooms in the new update.

In this version, we added a pretty crucial feature to our game: the ability to select encounters. Now, you’re able to balance risk and reward by picking Elite combat encounters to earn precious sigils and gold, or stick to shops and rest sites to keep your health topped up.

But more importantly than that… It feels like you’re actually in a dungeon now! There’s a certain physicality to the rooms and corridors we’ve added that really add to the atmosphere of the game. This playtest version of the game is free and publically available on both Steam and itch.io. It would mean a lot to us if you could try it out and tell us what you think!

deVlog

In addition to all that, I published another deVlog episode on YouTube. It was high time to tell a tale I’ve already mentioned countless time here in the newsletter: the cancellation of Rumorweaver and the start of Bibidi Bibidi! I’m not saying anything I haven’t mentioned here before, but now it’s available to whoever watched only my video content.

Why Am I Doing? (this)

For this segment, I had a whole spiel about how I got 22+ hours in the new Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era demo and how it made me think of some old game designs I’d been working on, but then I remembered I already got into that once.

I think we’ll call it here for today, and hopefully next time I’ll get back to you before another month goes by!
